I find that the test I have taken to prove that I am a synesthete do not include topics such as voice clips sounding different ways. All that they test on is what symbols look like. I find it hard to believe that I am unique in that I see sounds as colors as well. If someone out there also has this, please let me know.

Dear kellen, I also see sounds as colors, especially tunes. There are green songs or red ones, all come in different shades. I've also got a strong reaction to voices - some feel like a mellow summer breeze, some just give me the creeps. It's certainly a tough business to walk through life as a synethete, but I won't miss it, knowing I belong to a minority but I'm not alone in this world full of impressions.

i dont physically 'see' colors in front of my eyes, but sounds have color to me. music, names, humms, everything. i also have this thing where smells give off different rings in my ears, and the rings give off sounds ><

I see colors behind my eyes, as I play and listen to music. It's assisted me greatly in my music playing.

You are certainly not alone, but in good company Kellen. You are truly gifted Wanderlust and LazyNinja! Do you experience soundscapes Mayflower?

Sounds have many qualities for me including color. This is true for saying/singing and hearing sounds (human, animal and natural). The funny thing is that until age 20 I assumed that everybody had this ability. I have been seeking out other synaethetes ever since - in the company of artists, musicians, naturalists, poets et al. It really helps when communicating with wildlife like birds, deer, bears and fish. Sharing the wonders that we on this blog know about with people who perceive differently has been a sort of hobby of mine. I approach it by teaching music to children and tai chi to adults.
